GIRLS INC – REAL BEAUTY MEDIA PROJECT

For the second year in a row, I’ve been asked to participate in a media project with Girls Inc.

For three weeks I met with three young ladies in the 4th and 5th grade to talk about “real” beauty, inner beauty, beauty portrayed in the media, and what it takes for the models and actresses we see to achieve their “perfect” look. We discussed everything from plastic surgery to weight issues.

These girls always amaze me with the insight they have on the subject – they have opinions about it before we even sit down to talk about it.

One of the things we discussed is the “team” of professionals that theses models and actors on magazine covers have to achieve their “perfection,” and set out to prove to them that with confidence, and a team of professionals on your side, your magazine cover can be just as glamorous as a supermodel.

The last week of our group, the girls got a field trip to my studio where AJ Lane and her team showed them what professional hair and makeup services can do for them. Then, each girl stepped in front of my camera and some glamor lighting to photograph their own magazine cover. The names of the magazines and the article titles came from discussions we had over the course of the project that describe what real beauty means to each of them. It’s a special project – these girls SHINE on their covers and I’m so proud all of them. Watch a little video here of me showing Karla how to pose for her magazine cover.

KAYLA’S SENIOR MODELING SESSION

As a senior model for AVP, Kayla came to the studio for a quick shoot so we could get some fun images for her to start out with the modeling program. As a model, she now gets to nominate other students from the Class of ’14 to be models as well. The AVP senior modeling program is BY INVITATION ONLY.

CHILD’S PLAY TOY STORE ON NW 23rd

On Friday I had the privilege of taking some photographs for Child’s Play Toy Store. If you have not been there with your kids, you’re missing out. Child’s Play is a boutique toy store that carries quality toys and a lot of locally-made stuff for kids. From books to train sets, everything they carry is unique and special.

When the doors finally opened at 10am, there was literally a line of kids chomping at the bit to get in. As soon as they entered, the store came to life. Kids were riding around on bikes, looking through books, making music with instruments and playing with train sets and playhouses at one of their three play tables. What I noticed most of all was how comfortable these kids were in the store – it was like their own playroom with unlimited inspiration and things to spark their imaginations.

There’s something special around every corner in the store. It’s an amazing place. You’ll find it at NW 23rd & Kearney.

MOTHER’S DAY 2013

This year for Mother’s Day when you bring the kids in for portraits you’ll be helping the I HAVE A DREAM FOUNDATION of OREGON. Read more about them here!

Bring the kids down to the studio for an unexpected surprise for Mom. Sit back and relax while I capture some great shots of the kids, and you can present your favorite shot to mom in a special frame for Mother’s Day. Bring her back to the studio for a full presentation of all the photos and let her choose her favorites.

For $149, you’ll get a session of great shots of the kids and your favorite shot in a 5×7 gift frame in time for Mother’s Day. When you return to the studio for your full ordering session, 30% of that purchase will get donated to the Oregon I HAVE A DREAM FOUNDATION. It’s a great way to help out some hard-working kids that could use a little extra this Spring!

Sessions are limited. Book your April date TODAY to secure your gift before Mother’s Day gets here.

CLAIRE’S FIRST BIRTHDAY

CLAIRE IS ONE! I feel like it can’t be longer than six months ago that I shot her mommy & daddy’s wedding. Time flies! Claire had lots of expression for her shoot this morning, until I got out the squeaky chicken which completely traumatized her. Good thing we got some good smiles before the photographer sabotaged the rest of the shoot! Sorry, Claire. ; )
